It is not possible to provide detailed information on running costs when using a Dimplex fire, because there are so many variables to consider – what electricity tariff will be used, how long the fire will be on for, does the fire have a thermostat and what setting the thermostat will be on – all these factors need to be taken into account. However, the running costs of a Dimplex electric fire may well be less than you think. Indeed, using the flame effect only option on our LE range of fires and suites can cost less than £2 per annum as the fire incorporates Low Energy light bulbs. Dimplex fires are also 100% at point of use, unlike a gas fire with a flue which can send over 50% of its heat up the chimney, and a coal fire which loses up to 80% of its heat. Dimplex electric fire also requires little or no maintenance, saving time and money on regular checks.
There have also been significant increases in the price of fuel in recent years, and whilst electricity prices have gone up, the increases are not as significant as gas. In fact Energywatch – the independent gas and electricity consumer watchdog – reported in July 2006 that some energy suppliers had increased the cost of gas to their customers by as much as 92% since 2003, while the price of electricity had increased by only 54%.
