F-gas is the working name for the EU directive 842/40/2006.  The directive concerns certain fluorinated greenhouse gases and the aim is to reduce emissions of HFCs, PFCs and SF6.  HFCs are present in some refrigerants that are employed by heat pumps and so the directive applies to those heat pumps.

Under F-gas the owner of the equipment is responsible for its'compliance, which is determined by a test that needs to be carried out annually. For Dimplex heat pumps the yearly check is only required for units containing more than 6Kg of certain refrigerants. To determine how much refrigerant is held in your heat pump check the rating plate (see diagram below) which is located close to the base of the heat pump.

Not all of our heat pumps need to be checked annually under F-gas, those that do are listed below:

Dimplex Accredited Installers do not need to hold F-gas certification to install Dimplex Renewables heat pumps as the refrigerant circuit in all of our range are hermetically sealed and does not need to be altered in any way during installation.

As soon as the refrigerant circuit is broken, any work carried out on it will need to be performed by an engineer trained in refrigerant handling employed by a company with a valid F-gas certificate. Any company carrying out work on refrigerant circuits must be F-gas certified and should be able to provide proof of certification on request.
