Less energy, less water, more heat

SmartRad has been specifically developed to provide excellent levels of heating at the low water temperatures normally associated with underfloor heating – typically around 40°. This allows the heat pump’s CoP to be maximised, reducing running costs and household CO2 emissions.

Containing less than a litre of water, 5% of the volume of a conventional radiator, SmartRad has an extremely low thermal mass, so when heat is needed it can respond almost immediately as opposed to the 15 minutes it can take for a traditional radiator to reach operating temperature. SmartRad’s reduced thermal inertia and high thermal output allows room temperature to be raised in less than half the time taken by a traditional radiator, thus reducing energy wastage due to an early switch on. Conversely, once the room temperature has been reached or when heating is no longer required, SmartRad with it’s low thermal inertia, cools quickly preventing further energy wastage.

Employing a compact, high efficiency heat exchanger and intelligently controlled fan to assist convection and deliver heat into the room means SmartRads, despite their low water temperature, are significantly more powerful than convector radiators and thus can be up to 3½ times smaller with the same level of output. Using fan assisted convection also provides the advantage of even distribution of warm air throughout the room which ultimately can lead to further energy savings as rooms feel more comfortable.
