Cosy Christmas activities to enjoy in front of the fire

Christmas

If your children love to wake up at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning, brimming with excitement at the thought of presents, you are not alone. Although seeing children’s faces light up with glee at the sight of gifts and Christmas treats is magical, as a parent you are also faced with trying to entertain little ones from the early morning, as well as making a delicious Christmas dinner and taking time for yourself to relax. Well, we at Dimplex are here to help, with a list of fun Christmas games for you and your loved ones to play over the Christmas holidays, no matter the age. Gather your family around the fire, and have some Christmas fun.

Candy cane hunt

This one is as simple as buying a few candy canes and hiding them around the house. A harder version of this would be a scavenger style hunt for a present. Hide clues around the house leading to the next one, and let the kids battle it out over who finds their present first!

Candy cane racing

This takes the same principle as an egg and spoon race, but uses a candy cane instead of a spoon and a bauble in place of an egg – a tidier, Christmassy version of this classic game.

Christmas pass the parcel

For this one, you’ll need a pair of oven gloves, a pair of dice and a big wrapped present! In a circle, one person has the dice and attempts to roll a double number, whilst the person to their right has to put on the oven gloves and try to unwrap the first layer of wrapping. When they roll a double, they pass on the dice and take over trying to unwrap the present while wearing oven gloves. The game is complete when the centre prize is revealed after being concealed under a few layers of wrapping paper.

Guess what’s in the stocking

One person places objects in the depths of a stocking and everyone else has to take turns guessing what it is – without peeking!

Pin the angel on the tree/nose on the Rudolph

Depending on how artistic you are feeling this Christmas, you can draw a quick Christmas tree or Rudolph (a separate activity could be gathering everyone to decorate it together) and play pin the nose on the Rudolph or pin the angel on the tree. Winner gets the first slice of dessert!

Christmas is a time for families to come together and enjoy being cosy and warm in your homes during the winter. We at Dimplex wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
