Safety first with Dimplex

At Dimplex, we design every product with safety - front and centre.

When looking to buy an electrical heater, the best thing that you can do is look for a BEAB-approved European Safety Mark. This is the highest safety standard achievable in the UK market. You will find this mark on our electric heating products; either on the product itself as well as on its packaging and literature.

Remember, with electric heaters there is no fuel burned internally, so there's no naked flame, no risk of fumes, carbon monoxide, or the dangers of storing and changing gas bottles that comes with using gas portable heaters. When used correctly electric heaters are one of the safest ways to warm a room.

It is also important to choose to buy from recognised manufacturers and retailers. As a consumer, you have the right to check that the product carries the BEAB mark as an assurance of safety.

Remember this basic safety advice whenever you use an electric heater

  • Avoid buying second hand heaters
  • Put your heater on a level surface and away from any potential obstruction
  • Do not power a heater from an extension lead as these can be easily overloaded causing fires
  • Never cover, drape or leave clothing on an electric heater. Never use it to dry your clothes!
  • Keep your heater a safe distance, at least a metre, from clothes, curtains and furniture
  • Always turn off your heater and allow it to cool before moving it
  • Your heater should be regularly inspected for damage and deterioration. Do not use it if uncertain or if there is apparent damage
  • Always use the portable heater for the application it was intended.

Safety for Electric Heating products

Unlike gas portable heaters, electric heaters have no fumes, so there is no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, no annual safety checks required and no need for additional ventilation

BEAB Approval : There is a range of approvals and standards that can be met by electrical heating products. These range from legally required minimum standards through to high-end approvals that demonstrate that products are tested against the highest safety standards.

Many products in the EU are covered by a directive which states that the manufacturer must declare their product meets the minimum safety, health and environmental legislation required of it by European law. This is denoted by the CE mark on the product.

The BEAB Approved Mark for Intertek is a European Safety Mark used by leading electrical manufacturers to support CE marking and to demonstrate conformity with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). Importantly however a BEAB Approved Mark on a product demonstrates that Intertek (an independent third party) has verified its safety.

Recognised across the UK and Europe, the BEAB Approved Mark demonstrates the safety pedigree of a product. It shows commitment to best practice, commitment to producing quality goods and most importantly commitment to customer safety. This is the highest safety standard achievable in the UK market. The mark indicates that the product has been manufactured in an inspected factory, using accepted methods, that the products have been tested and assessed by Intertek, and that the products bearing the BEAB Approved Mark are also randomly checked by Intertek on an annual basis.

The use of this mark on our products, packaging and literature indicate Dimplex products meet this standard.

Safety for Portable Heaters

Unlike gas portable heaters, no fuel is consumed within portable electric heaters, so there are no fumes, no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, no need for extra ventilation, no bottles to be changed and no requirement for annual safety checks.

The majority of Dimplex portable heaters also offer the added reassurance of BEAB approval, the highest safety standard achievable in the UK market.

The presence of a BEAB Approved Mark on a product demonstrates that Intertek (an independent third party) has verified its safety. Look for the BEAB mark on our portable heating products, packaging and literature.

Safety for Air Treatment products

Dimplex humidifiers feature auto shut off when the water tank is empty. Dimplex dehumidifiers feature auto shut off when the water tank is full.

Ensure use of any air treatment product is appropriate to the tasks for which it has been designed.

Dimplex dehumidifiers, for example, are designed for domestic use within the home.

For specialist tasks we would recommend purchasing a commercial dehumidifier designed specifically for the role intended.
