A Road to Innovation: How Church Road benefited from the Zeroth Energy System
In an up-and-coming area with close proximity to Stratford and Central London, Church Road, Leyton promises to be a development in demand. In 2017, Galliard Homes acquired the site and gained approval for the development of 48 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments alongside two three-bedroom townhouses.
Reversible heat pumps to provide comfort cooling
The recent government consultation into a new overheating regulation has shown the importance of designing safe and comfortable spaces, especially in our overheating cities. With summertime temperatures set to increase, what role could heat pumps play in offering a solution?
Residential ventilation: Saving time on design and installation
The importance of suitable ventilation is becoming increasingly recognised, as society and the media have begun to focus on the air quality within our homes. This is because as Part L of the Building Regulations has been updated to save energy by tightening the building fabric, Part F has not been reviewed in turn. This has resulted in poor air quality as air change requirements do not go far enough to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from residential spaces.
Residential Housing: Alternative HVAC Solutions
At GDHV, we are often asked about alternative HVAC solutions for residential housing. When considering current legislation, regional targets and the requirements of housebuilders, we usually suggest the Edel hot water heat pump.
Whole Home Solution: Bathrooms
Our bathrooms are getting smaller. At just 4.4 square metres, the average bathroom is not much bigger than a king-sized mattress. One of the biggest challenges as a result of smaller bathroom dimensions is heating the space whilst maintaining safety for our families, particularly with the trend for installing wet rooms in an effort to maximise space.

Electric Jersey - cut bills and cut carbon
After a recent trip to Jersey to investigate the merits and practicalities of using heat pump technologies, it is clear that local conditions still have a huge influence on the development of the energy market. Darrel Handley, business development manager for Dimplex explains why, when it comes to heating and hot water, electric offers a strong case for improving island life.

How to specify the right heat pump for your residential project: Environmental and planning concerns
Heat pumps are being increasingly specified for residential projects to meet hot water and space heating demands. They provide a low carbon alternative to the use of fossil fuels as an energy source and can achieve compliance to Part L 2021, the latest building regulations update to the approved document covering the conservation of fuel and power. The government is proposing further changes to building regulations in 2025 in the form of the Future Homes Standard that will prohibit the use of fossil fuels for new residential buildings. Therefore, specifying heat pumps now will help to future proof specifications and minimise the need for retrofitting to meet further regulatory changes.
Meeting the challenges of heating specification
Meeting the energy efficiency requirements of Building Regulations remains the biggest driver when choosing appropriate heating, cooling and hot water systems for new property development, according to research commissioned by Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation.
