What is EN 15316?
EN 15316 offers guidelines that set out a common calculation method to estimate the energy use and energy performance of heating systems in buildings. The values are calculated for the whole installation and help to analyse the impact on energy performance. The values also help to establish energy performance indicators such as the Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF).
What is EN 14825?
EN 14825 sets out the temperatures, part-load conditions, and calculation methods for determining the Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) and Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). It applies to the operation of air-conditioning units, process chillers, and particular types of hybrid heat pumps. The values used to define the SCOP can be calculated or measured. If measured values are applied, the standard covers the applicable test methods.
What is EN 14511?
EN 14511 sets out standardised performance and rating terms for air-conditioning units, heat pumps and liquid chilling packages that supply space heating or cooling. EN 14511 is used for a determination of the Coefficient of Performance (COP) that gauges the performance of a heat pump.
What is diversity in HVAC systems?
What is diversity in HVAC systems, and how does it affect HVAC system design and specification for residential developments?
Diversity in HVAC systems within medium to large scale developments acknowledges that it is unlikely the maximum demand of all individual users of the system will arise concurrently. The total heat demand in a building is likely to be lower than the maximum or peak demand at various points in the heat network.
Whole Home Solution: Bathrooms
Our bathrooms are getting smaller. At just 4.4 square metres, the average bathroom is not much bigger than a king-sized mattress. One of the biggest challenges as a result of smaller bathroom dimensions is heating the space whilst maintaining safety for our families, particularly with the trend for installing wet rooms in an effort to maximise space.
Top tips for a comforting sleep environment
If you find yourself tossing and turning at night, struggling to get to sleep, it may well be that your environment is to blame.
Electric Jersey - cut bills and cut carbon
After a recent trip to Jersey to investigate the merits and practicalities of using heat pump technologies, it is clear that local conditions still have a huge influence on the development of the energy market. Darrel Handley, business development manager for Dimplex explains why, when it comes to heating and hot water, electric offers a strong case for improving island life.

How to specify the right heat pump for your residential project: Environmental and planning concerns
Heat pumps are being increasingly specified for residential projects to meet hot water and space heating demands. They provide a low carbon alternative to the use of fossil fuels as an energy source and can achieve compliance to Part L 2021, the latest building regulations update to the approved document covering the conservation of fuel and power. The government is proposing further changes to building regulations in 2025 in the form of the Future Homes Standard that will prohibit the use of fossil fuels for new residential buildings. Therefore, specifying heat pumps now will help to future proof specifications and minimise the need for retrofitting to meet further regulatory changes.
Meeting the challenges of heating specification
Meeting the energy efficiency requirements of Building Regulations remains the biggest driver when choosing appropriate heating, cooling and hot water systems for new property development, according to research commissioned by Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation.
