The Sleep Council advise that aside from putting your smart phone away 30 minutes before sleep and taking warm baths, a key step in creating the perfect sleeping environment is to make it relaxing and adjusting it to suit your sleep needs. ‘The bedroom should be an oasis of calm and tranquillity – uncluttered and devoted to the land of dreams.’ This may sound a little daunting, but these top tips for a comforting bedroom environment will help optimise your space for a better night’s sleep.

Find your ideal temperature

The optimal temperature for a peaceful night’s sleep is between 16 – 18 degrees Celsius, but with the constant fluctuations in British weather it can be hard to maintain this – if it’s a few degrees too hot or cold, you’ll find yourself waking up throughout the night. Utilising breathable fabrics such as cotton bedding will help your body regulate its ideal temperature for a peaceful night. If it’s the peak of summer or winter, investing in a cooling fan or portable radiator to maintain a comfortable temperature can be ideal to help keep your sleep cycle regular.

Keep the air clean

If you or a family member suffer with allergies, it can be difficult to fall asleep through the sniffles and coughs. Using an air purifier can reduce the presence of polluting agents such as dust, spores, bacteria and pet dander. Finding one with a HEPA filter and ioniser, such as our Dimplex model, is ideal, as they can retain up to 99.97% of these aggravating particles in your home, helping to create a calming, more peaceful sleep environment.

A good night’s sleep shouldn’t be a thing of dreams. By taking a few simple steps to changing your environment you can transform your sleep cycle and give yourself a better chance at a restful night.
